SHOULD MOBILE PATROL GUARDS HAVE INCREASED POWERS TO DRIVE VEHICLES AND HAVE LIGHTS AND SIRENS AFFIXED

This question was raised in New Zealand a couple of years ago by NZSIA (Similar to SIA).

In response to queries arising from its members about a submission to allow Patrol Officers to undertake special training and special driver license endorsements that would allow those licensed and accredited to exceed speed limits whilst on duty to attend alarm responses.

What are your thoughts?

Mobile Patrol should be able to use Blue Lights with/without sirens but it would put the cost of SIA training and licencing up purely with the training of the Blue Light Driving even then would they permit it as they is certain companies in the UK who now look like police with the tact vests.

Yes sure it would make things alot easier if we had more powers than we already have even in the UK or NZ or around the world for that matter of fact

Totally disagree. The last thing we need. Driving these vehicles at speed with all of the associated dangers requires a high level of skill not to mention insurance, mechanical checks and pursuit and avoidance hazard perception. I've trained enough people to obtain their SIA license and driven enough blue light vehicles to know the two don't mix. If you want to 'Bring the noise' then join the Police.

Tracy, to be honest when you put it like that I understand where your coming from, especially now the SIA and government are giving the licences out to anyone and everyone.

Any one driving any form of security vehicle should undergo the same training as we had in the CP driving, flashing lights and sierons are for OB not security
